Your posts are drowning in a sea of content. It’s time to grab a life jacket and learn how to freakin’ swim.
It’s been nearly 10 years since marketing guru Mark Shaefer first coined the phrase “content shock.” And, oh buddy, are we being shocked on the daily.
The average American consumes 33 gigabytes of content every day. And content is being created wayyy faster than we can even consume it, thanks to a little ol’ thing called ChatGPT.
So then, Michael. How the hell can I compete with a content-creating supercomputer and actually get my TA’s attention?
By being human.
Sure, AI can write faster than you. But AI isn’t you. It doesn’t know your story, and it can’t make a personal connection with your TA by sharing that life experience.
So, to make a splash in the sea of content, you’ve got to get personal. Share your lived experience through real, human anecdotes. That’s what will connect with your TA, build trust, and foster community.
Make a difference in your content, and your clients’ lives, by sharing your story.

Does connecting with your audience ever feel like an awkward first date?
You're giving it your all, serving up funny and informative content, but the sparks just aren't flying. The conversation goes cold, your jokes fall flat, and nerves start to creep in.
On a date, it might be time to order more wine. But here on LinkedIn, it’s time to switch things up.
If you only publish written posts, change your medium. Share a video, host a podcast, or drop an engaging audio clip. Speak directly to your audience and let your true personality shine.
I’ll admit, I felt a bit ridiculous when filming my first video post, but it transformed how I connected to my audience.
Already comfortable with videos and feeling extra spicy? Try hosting a live event. It's thrilling, a bit nerve-wracking, and folks will eat it up.
Ready to show your audience the real you? Engage authentically and switch up your posting style, then watch as the conversation heats up.

There’s no shame in being in it for the money.
But when you’re struggling to gain traction with your audience, or you’re scrambling behind your prospects trying to seal the deal, well…
Your vision might start tunneling. And you might start to see your audience as dollar signs just out of your reach.
That’s when you’ve got to turn those dollar signs back into people. Remind yourself of the importance of community, and work hard at cultivating it.
As for me, I’m so stinkin’ grateful for the folks I have in my community. Their insights and experiences are invaluable, and our interactions are just damn fun.
So, what are some ways to nurture your own little community? Here are a few ideas:
Build genuine relationships
Engage actively with your people
Focus on adding value when you share
Make sure you’re having some freakin’ fun
Start focusing on building community, and watch how your business takes off. We’re all just people out here, after all.
What about you guys? How have you cultivated community in your lives? Let’s talk about it in the comments.
